In 2023, I was diagnosed with a benign cyst that my doctor casually referred to as having “rooms.” I had been working on the large sculpture at the center of “Soft Tectonics,” imagining domestic space that had come to life and was developing tumorous growths. It described an architectural structure turned physical body, all the while my own physical body was turning architectural. This is one of two videos made from my abdominal ultrasounds. It resembles undulating water but is in fact high frequency sound waves bouncing off my insides. We are about 60% water so it makes sense in a poetic albeit unscientific way. The audio combines the sound of rainwater leaking into my basement studio, audio of my stomach growling and volcanic infrasonic recordings - the sounds of the guts of the earth.
